WORDS is an automated Latin dictionary. The software provides definitions and morphologies (gender, case, tense, mood, etc.) for approximately 20,000 Latin words. WORDS runs on DOS, Windows 95/NT/98/ME/2000/XP, Linux and FreeBSD, OS/2, and Mac OS X systems as a console program.
Colonel William A. Whitaker (USAF-Retired) passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. While at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), he worked on the computer language ADA. In retirement, he created the Latin-English translation software program, "Whitaker's Words".
